HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

On June 13, 1979, the Federación Canófila de Puerto Rico was accepted as an Associated Member to the Federation Cynologique Internationale. This was the beginning of a new era in the dog world for Puerto Rico. For the first time, the National Championship Title, Stud Book and its Pedigrees were worldwide recognized.

The First International (CACIB) Dog Show was celebrated (held)
in April 26 and 27, 1980. Since then, the FCPR has celebrated (held) Intenational Dog Shows every year.

Important Achievements:

1)- Became a Federated Member to the FCI in 1981.
2)- Became member of the Sociedad de Intercambio de la Canofilia Latinoamericana in 1981.
3)- Held Las Americas and Caribbean Championships in 1985, 1992 and 1998.
4)- Held Sicalam Championships in 1992 and 2005.
5)- In 1997, held the FCI World Dog Show.
6)- In 2006, held the First Panamerican Championship.

During all these years, the FCPR has developed various and important educational programs. Since 1970, has celebrated Conformation and
Socialization courses for the pure bred dogs and its owners.

In 1982 started to give obedience courses all year-round, motivating people and their dogs.

In 2004 commenced with agility trials which soon united all national organizations to compete and represent Puerto Rico in the World Agility Contests.

Under a distinguished group of people, developed the Therapy Dog Programs, bringing happiness and love to the sick, elderly and youngsters throughout the Island all year round.

 

 

The FCPR was recognized by the Sports and Recreation Department of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as the only and official national entity for dogs’ related sports.

In January 2007, the FCPR Stud & Pedigree Book was recognized by the AKC.

The FCPR is a proud member of the FCI which has over 80 member countries (www.fci.be) and its President, Rafael de Santiago, is the actual Treasurer for such worldwide organization.
